A monotype print is made by drawing or painting on a smooth, non-absorbent surface. I work on a Plexiglas plate using oil-base printing inks adding other materials to the plate to build up the image. Monotyping produces a unique print with most of the ink removed during each pressing. With no permanent features on the surface of the plate, the image is typically dependent on one inking, or as in my work, multiple inking and printing of the plate. Photographs are treated as another graphic element, added to the plate, and integrated into the print image. I repeat this process, reprinting three to four times before achieving a finished print. The result in the end of the process is a unique print.
